The Scottish way of spelling whisky is enshrined within the regulations of the Scotch Whisky Association. When spelt with an “ey” the spirit is probably from Ireland or the United States. Scotch whisky production is closely governed and protected so the many and distinctively famous brands from all the Scottish regions remain undiluted.
So what a thing it is to have your own whisky collection, and even more so to have a special place to sample a dram, or simply enjoy the range of whisky bottles lovingly collected from all over Scotland. Some have cellars, others have specially designed fitted out whisky rooms.
The brief for this whisky room was to be able to display and enjoy an extensive collection, as well as providing space for its storage. The symmetrical room design was created to have two large glazed cabinets facing each other. Glass shelves and LED lighting help display and give access to the collection. Maple was chosen for the cabinetry as a warm looking fine grained timber helping to keep the room light.
Between the two displays low storage doubles as a convenient tasting surface and is set just below the window. The window is itself flanked by two further glazed display cabinets.
With a comfortable chair, and a tartan carpet, this is a whisky connoisseur’s den!
