Pembroke College, Oxford commissioned Treske to design tables and seating for the Forte Room refurbishment. The brief was to create flexible table layouts for a variety of formal and semi formal gatherings along with comfortable seating.
The tables were designed so that they could be dismantled and stored within two table storage credenzas positioned outside the dining room – the legs are removable and then fit beneath the table surface for storage. The ten tables store within the two stores, so that the dining room can be completely cleared of tables. Each table along with the storage has one of the Pembroke insignia carved into a rail. While the tables were made in sapele, matching the chairs, to fit within the formal dining space, their storage cupboards were made in oak to fit with their location in the oak panelled corridor.
The Pembroke chair design has an upholstered leather seat and a tall back. This elegant and generous formal chair is well proportioned for the tables and the room. The Pembroke insignia are carved into the chair backs making each of the fifty-four chairs personal to Pembroke.
"It has been admired by everyone who has seen it and the general feeling is that the Forte Room has been transformed. We are delighted with everything and grateful to Treske for pulling out all the stops."
