Kitchen Project - York

As with many family houses this kitchen is a key space, needing to cater for entertaining as well as family meals.

The kitchen cabinetry is made in a shaker style with doors set within frames and is predominantly painted in white with walnut handles used throughout the kitchen  The exception is that the aubergine colour of the AGA is used to pick out the framing of the large larder cupboard against the richness of the walnut shaker doors. The larder cupboard is set on the worksurface and houses coffee making and the toaster – the folding doors make for fast tidying up.

This design revolves around the cooking, with the Aga set into the ancient fireplace, and an island giving immense practicality for food preparation. The sink area looks over the garden.
Relaxing has been made special with a cocktail bar designed to fit into an otherwise awkward corner. The mirrored back to the shelving accentuates the collection of cocktail glasses, and a wine cooler is set within the same area.

The work-surface granite chosen was Colonial Cream which is used around the kitchen and also under the folding door larder cupboard. The work-surfaces are completed with an end grain chopping board set opposite the AGA for food preparation.

A large utility made in the same style as the kitchen, gives additional coat hanging, storage and washing facilities designed around the family’s needs.
